• Terry Gipson Endorsed by Environmental Organizations
Poughkeepsie, NY: State Senate Candidate Terry Gipson (D) has been endorsed by two major environmental organizations, the New York League of Conservation Voters and the Sierra Club. As a State Senator from 2013-14, Terry Gipson proved to be a strong leader on environmental issues in the Hudson Valley, and succeeded in passing legislation to protect the environment and build a green economy. Terry Gipson’s record stands in strong contrast to his opponent, which is why these organizations have chosen to endorse his candidacy.
“As a true environmentalist, I pledge to actively take on the major environmental issues facing the Hudson Valley,” said Terry Gipson. “Protecting our region’s water supply has always been at the top of my list, and currently that means fighting tooth and nail to prevent the U.S. Coast Guard from building anchoring stations in the Hudson River. It also means upgrading our waste water systems, which would not only protect our environment and public health, but create local jobs and grow our economy.”
In 2014, Terry Gipson introduced and fought to pass the legislation known as the Wappingers Watershed Act, which gave Federal protections to the Hudson Valley’s largest watershed. Terry was a leader in the successful effort to stop hyro-fracking from coming to New York, and he supported numerous bills to create local jobs through investments in solar and renewable energy.
“Terry Gipson has already demonstrated true leadership in advancing a pro-environment agenda in the State Senate. We are confident that he will pick up where he left off and work tirelessly to ensure that we protect clean water, remove toxic chemicals from the environment, and replace aging infrastructure. NYLCV is proud to endorse Terry Gipson for State Senate, and we’re excited about the difference his voice could make on the big environmental battles ahead, both in the Hudson Valley and statewide,” said Marcia Bystryn, President of the New York League of Conservation Voters.
The New York League of Conservation Voters is a statewide organization which is well known for their advocacy to preserve productive farmland in the Hudson Valley. The NYLCV is currently advocating for upgrades and repairs to the region’s wastewater infrastructure to preserve and protect Hudson Valley waterways.
The Sierra Club holds the distinction of being the largest environmental organization in the United States, with over two million members. Their work has resulted in successful legislation to protect our air, water, and natural species. Their most recent efforts have focused on creating a green economy and transitioning from fossil fuels to renewable energy.
